Fryeburg, Gilead and Greenwood will hold their annual town meetings on Saturday.

Each town will elect a selectman and school board director for three-year terms. Fryeburg will elect two school board directors, as well as an alternate school board director for a one-year term.

Fryeburg’s meeting, postponed from March 17 due to a winter storm, will take place at 9 a.m. at the Fire House on Main Street. Voters will discuss 78 articles, most of which deal with paying for town services.

Article 15 of Fryeburg’s warrant will have the town discuss whether the selectmen should enter negotiations for federal and state grants for the improvement of the Eastern Slope Regional Airport. Article 16, if accepted, will authorize selectmen to lease the “Rescue Building” on Route 302 to the Fryeburg Rescue Association.

Voters will also decide whether they should replace certain sections of the town’s land use ordinance with a new section entitled “Water Resource Protection and Wellhead Protection.” The new text is available at the Town Municipal Offices or the town’s Web site at www.fryeburgmaine.org.

Other articles allocate funds for the purchase of newer fire and rescue equipment. Article 36 seeks to appropriate $1,750 of an expected $5,300 from Adelphia Cable to videotape local meetings for broadcast on public television.

Article 20, submitted by petition, advocates increasing the number of selectmen from three to five.

Gilead voters face 42 articles at their meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Gilead Town Hall. Four articles on Gilead’s warrant relate to the funding of public education. According to an explanation on Article 6, a municipality must raise a minimum amount to receive full state assistance.

Voters also will decide whether selectmen should look into the purchase of a new truck for the Highway Department. Article 40 will let voters decide whether the selectmen should negotiate the sale of a parcel of land on the Androscoggin River to the state for the purpose of building a public boat launch, parking area and toilet facilities. Funds acquired from the sale will go toward the winterization and improvement of the Gilead Town Hall.

Greenwood voters will meet at 10 a.m. at the Greenwood Town hall to discuss 39 warrant articles. Article 5 would authorize a general obligation bond to pay for a new command/equipment vehicle for the fire department. If it passes, the town will also consider Article 11, which will determine what sum of money the town should raise and appropriate toward the new debt.

Article 26 deals with increasing the property tax limit if the budget approved in the meeting exceeds the property tax limit. According to the statement of facts following the article, such an increase is required under state law and the vote will be taken by written ballot.
