WOODSTOCK – Selectmen Tuesday agreed to seek quotes for new Sterling and 2007 GMC plow trucks and equipment.

Town Manager and Road Commissioner Vern Maxfield said the decision to go with either model was made because the highway crew feels they’ll best serve the town and need the least maintenance.

Maxfield was leaning toward a truck with an automatic transmission because it’s what most experts recommend.

“We have met with a representative of Fairfield Equipment of Skowhegan,” Maxfield said, “and that is what was recommended.

“o we probably will go with the automatic if we can get a good deal.”

Buying either a Sterling or a GMC would probably take most of the $95,000 estimate the town has been using during discussions.

Maxfield also said that he and Bryan Keezer of the Maine Department of Transportation did a study last week of highway signs that need to be replaced.

“We came up with a substantial list of signs to replace and they will be replaced this summer.

The new signs will be the green reflective type recommended by the state and the state will help us with the cost by paying 25 percent up to $1,000,” Maxfield said.

Once the list is completed, selectmen will get it as well as cost estimates at the board’s next meeting.
