PARIS – Jeffrey R. Fagan was sworn in Tuesday as the new Oxford County commissioner, replacing Albert “Jim” Carey of Paris, who recently resigned because of ill health.

Fagan, a Republican, was selected as the nominee for the District 3 position last month by the Oxford County Republicans and appointed by Gov. John Baldacci. By law, Carey, a Republican, must be succeeded by a member of the same political party.

Fagan, 36, lives in Paris with his wife, Melissa, and their four children, ages 18, 10, 8 and 4.

Fagan graduated from the University of Massachusetts and said he has been involved in party politics since college. Last year, he worked for the campaign of state Rep. Bruce Hanley, who won the race for House District 94 in November 2004.

Fagan is also owner of The Inner Circle, a real estate sales and marketing firm in Paris.

Fagan described himself as an avid golfer and skier. He served as vice president of marketing and national director of real estate for American Skiing Co., the parent company of Sunday River Ski Area, from 1994 to 1999.

But despite his love of outdoor activities, Fagan said his busy life can make it tough to squeeze them in. “With four kids and a business, I don’t have a lot of free time,” he said.
