BUCKFIELD – A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a large equipment storage shed behind the new town garage Tuesday afternoon.

Lost were a sander, riding lawn mower, several new tires and other equipment, Town Manager Glen Holmes said. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

Fire departments from Buckfield, Paris, Turner and Sumner responded to the alarm around 2:30 p.m. Holmes said the wind was blowing away from the new garage, preventing damage to the garage as well as a calcium storage shed and fuel tanks. Firefighters were able to keep the damage in the woods to a minimum, he said.

Fire Chief Steve Bly said the building was 30 by 80 feet.

Holmes said new doors had been ordered for the storage shed and were going to be installed next week so the town’s summer equipment could be stored.

“It is a large building to replace but it could have been much worse,” he said.

The structure was insured, he said.
