WEST PARIS – Paving on Churchill Hill and Benson Hill roads will be put off unless the two bidders commit to doing the work this fall.
Selectmen last Thursday authorized Road Commissioner Bill Keach and Town Manager Donald Woodbury to award a last-minute paving contract to either Commercial Paving for $24,050 or Pike Industries for $16,485. Keach said neither is willing to commit to the job this fall.
The project involves 300 feet on Churchill Hill and 955 feet on Benson Hill.
“Both jobs need to be done,” Keach said, “but I see Benson Hill as having top priority because of the amount of traffic that road gets every day.”
Woodbury said, “It is imperative both of these jobs get done this fall if possible, but we need one of the bidders to commit to doing it in the next few weeks.”
Keach said next spring the cost per ton for paving materials is expected to increase significantly.
Selectmen decided Keach and Woodbury should try again to get a commitment from one of the companies to get the job done this fall.
