LIVERMORE – Safety, security and fun are the primary goals at Bright Ideas Child Care Center on Route 4 near the Livermore-Turner line.
Owner and on-site director Christine Theriault, of Hartford, is a bundle of harnessed energy as she proudly tours her newly expanded facility. Separate age-divided play rooms are filled with creative art supplies and educational toys, not to mention smiling kids.
There is one main access door to the building, and all others remain locked throughout the day. Fenced play yards are again divided by age and kept securely locked. “We have a sign-in, sign-out sheet for the parents,” Theriault said during a recent interview while discussing the many security features at the day care.
As if on cue, a loud continuous chime sounds to signal the arrival of a visitor.
“I have wonderful staff,” Theriault said later as she settled into her office. “And I am very particular.”
For her, a deep affinity for children is as much of a requirement as CPR and first aid certification. In addition, all staff get a thorough background check through two major state reporting agencies, Theriault said.
Theriault, who holds a bachelor’s degree in K-8 childhood education, said she found resources in the public school system inadequate. “I always knew I wanted to work with kids,” she said. “I felt the need for a good quality program in the area.”
Her assessment proved correct. Less than two years later she had a waiting list of clients and expansion plans were under way. Today she is licensed for up to 49 children and is currently accepting applications for new clients.
“The kids, the staff, the business, the parents, I love it!” she beams with the satisfaction of living a dream.
