AUBURN — Seth Thomas Carey is a Republican candidate for district attorney in District III, for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties.

His family has lived in Rumford for four generations. Carey went to Mountain Valley High School and was on the only state championship baseball team in the school’s history. He has also been in church and local performance choirs for more than 25 years.

In his spare time, Carey enjoys organic gardening and landscaping with his family, fishing, hiking, weightlifting, cooking and playing and watching sports.

He lives and works in Auburn.

According to a written statement, Carey said he has fought municipal overreach and overspending for two decades. He founded Concerned Citizens for Fiscal Responsibility while living in Rumford, and has drafted multiple citizens’ petitions, including one to prevent Rumford from buying a truck that did not fit in the station, another to allow voting by secret ballot at the annual town meeting and drafted the first statewide petition drive for a casino in Oxford County.

According to his statement, Carey sums his campaign message into two words: protecting taxpayers.

Carey, who said he practiced in Miami for almost two years as an immigration attorney in federal court, said he knows how to stop fraud and illegal immigration, and vows to work closely with the Trump Administration and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Welfare abuse and fraud will not be tolerated,” Carey said in a statement, “as it hurts hardworking, honest Mainers by stealing their tax dollars.”

Carey said he will also redouble efforts to stop scam artists, thieves and those who exploit the elderly and disabled.

Carey’s license to practice law is on an interim suspension. He said in a written statement that the suspension is under appeal and he hopes to have his license reactivated by the end of the year.
