PARIS – Stan Brett of Otisfield was recognized as 2004 Rotarian of the Year at the Oxford Hills Rotary Club’s annual dinner.

“He’s just a really dedicated, committed member,” club President Patty Rice said Wednesday. “Service above self’ is our motto, and he certainly fits that motto.”

Rice said Brett has been a member of the Rotary Club for nine years – and has never missed a meeting.

Brett, who served on the club’s board of directors for several years, is currently chair of special projects, according to a press release. He has been involved in the club’s dictionary project and its annual auction, as well as serving as a regular volunteer in the club’s food trailer.

Rice noted that Brett is involved in the local community “within Rotary and outside of Rotary.” He is chairman of the Otisfield Planning Board, which he has served on for more than 10 years. He’s a member of the Otisfield Trailblazers snowmobile club and is an active supporter of school athletics and class activities.

Brett also is a scholarship sponsor at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, where he set up a fund in memory of his son Cameron.

Brett was born in Otisfield, where he lives with his wife, Ann Marie, and daughters Jaimee, 17, and Lauren, 13.

At the annual dinner, Brett was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow certificate, a Rotary medallion and the Rotarian of the Year plaque.

Rotary International, which was founded in 1905, is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
