PARIS – Outdated computer equipment at the town office may soon be updated to make things run more smoothly.

New Town Manager Sharon Jackson said at least one computer at the office is so old it often shuts down in the middle of transactions. Some others just run slow.

“What I’m doing right now is I’m looking at our hardware needs to make sure that we have the hardware to support the software that we have,” Jackson said.

She explained that the software – used for everything from motor vehicle transactions to the storage of financial and property assessment data – does not operate well on some computers in the office.

On Tuesday, a computer consultant to looked over the town’s computer equipment, Jackson said. His report will be used to determine what work needs to be done, and the costs.
