NORWAY – An Oxford man was listed in critical condition late Friday night after his bicycle crashed into a Jeep at Alpine and Main streets, Maine State Police Trooper Kyle Tilsley said.
Wesley Patenaude, 66, was being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland, the trooper said. He was initially treated at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.
David Longstaff, 50, of Norway was going through the intersection from Alpine Street to Fair Street with a green traffic light when his 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee was hit by Patenaude, Tilsley said. Patenaude was headed south on Route 26 and proceeded through the red light to head toward Norway on Paris Street, the trooper said.
The accident occurred at 5:55 p.m. at the four-way intersection on the Norway-Paris town line.
Oxford County Deputy Dane Tripp was first on the scene, followed by Norway Patrolman James Ventresca and Chief Rob Federico. Paris Patrolman Ray Parr was also on scene. Because of the seriousness of Patenaude’s condition, the state police were called to investigated. Sgt. Mike Dailey of the Paris Police Department is reconstructing the accident.
There was minimal damage to the Jeep, Tilsley said.
