BETHEL – Timothy Carter, a Democrat who challenged state Rep. Arlan Jodrey, R-Bethel, will go ahead with a recount.
In unofficial results, Jodrey received 2,710 votes to Carter’s 2,661.
According to Maine’s Post-Election Procedure law, a recount is presumed necessary after the initial count if the margin between the candidates is 1 percent or less. Losing candidates, if they desire, must file a written request for a recount within five business days of the election.
Carter said that if the 1 percent figure to trigger a recount is normal, he would go ahead. He said he and Jodrey are friends, and there is nothing personal about requesting the recount. He said, too, that many people helped him on his campaign, a first-time effort. Some of those were urging a recount because the tally was so close.
“Arlan Jodrey is a fine representative for District 91,” Carter said.
Carter must file a written request for a recount with the secretary of state by Nov. 9.
