4-H clubs
PARIS – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is encouraging youth education through 4-H clubs and community programs. 4-H clubs reorganize in October of each year. Clubs can be focused on photography, visual arts, community service, leadership, animals and other subjects. 4-H is vested in teaching young people about life skills, leadership, citizenship and community service learning. 4-H also offers many community educational experiences, such as the ARK Early Enrichment Programs for youngsters ages 3 to 12 in the visual arts, performing arts, international cultures and sciences, as well as teen leadership, career education, global education and service learning opportunities. A monthly newsletter of 4-H information and youth resources is offered. For teens, 4-H offers opportunities in service, career, education, conferences, trips and award programs to include Citizenship Washington Focus, National 4-H Congress and National 4-H Conferences. All programs are open to youth ages 5 to 18. More information may be obtained by calling Susan Jennings at 1-800-287-1482.
4-H leaders
PARIS – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is searching for 4-H club leaders. 4-H offers club leaders great resources, training, opportunities, insurance coverage and connections. They are given the opportunity to excel, learn, become leaders, give to the community, raise self-esteem, and make a difference. All clubs are formed with minimum of four youth and one leader. Clubs can hold fund- raisers, but it is not a requirement. Dues are a choice, and are not required by the county, regional or national level. Clubs will get support from the county office and receive one copy of resources free of charge. Clubs can connect with other clubs and members across the county and establish great partnerships. More information may be obtained by calling Susan Jennings, extension educator, at 743-6329 or 1-800-287-1482.
