OXFORD – Sharon Jackson will be named interim town manager at Thursday’s selectmen meeting.
Head Selectman Floyd Thayer said the board decided following a Thursday executive session to offer the interim position to Jackson, the town’s deputy treasurer and assistant tax collector for the past eight years.
Town Manager Michael Huston is leaving the end of July to take a position as Lincoln County administrator.
Selectmen have opted to conduct the search for a new town manager on their own, without hiring professional help or involving a larger citizen-based search committee.
Jackson is one of two local residents who had requested in writing to be considered for the town manager’s job. The other is Caldwell Jackson, who is no relation to her. He served nine years as a selectman, including four as the board’s chairman.
Thayer said the town is advertising statewide for the position.
They will continue to take applications until Aug. 2. After that, the board will go over the applications and decide who they want to interview as finalists for the job.
