NORWAY – The list of candidates for Norway police chief has been cut in half, Selectman William Damon said Thursday night.
“We’ve narrowed it down to three,” he said.
A 10-member committee of Selectmen Damon, Robert Walker, George Tibbetts Jr., Leslie Flanders and Russell Newcomb, and residents Jancy Cazneau, David Everett, Don Gouin, Carol Perkins and Darlene Sessions, has decided on three finalists for the job, Damon said.
The panel will now review comments about them by three police chiefs who have helped in the search, he said, and will review the interviews held with each candidate.
“It’ll take a few more weeks,” Damon said, before a selection is made.
Police chiefs from Topsham, Brunswick and Boothbay Harbor were asked to assist the town in the selection process, which included polygraph testing and psychological exams.
The search began after former chief Tim Richards was fired by Town Manager David Holt in mid-March. In upholding the ouster in April, the Board of Selectmen cited Richards’ “extreme poor judgment” in having a relationship with a subordinate.
