BUCKFIELD – The Board of Selectmen voted Monday to have the town manager sign an agreement with the state for constructing sidewalks along Depot Street.

The state will build the sidewalk going from the barbershop in the village square along Route 117 to the area across from the new town garage. It will extend the sidewalk as far as the Evelyn Burnham property, with the town sharing the expense.

Voters approved spending up to $5,000 on the project.

Town Manager Cindy Dunn reported that the Department of Conservation has inspected the Woodbury Hill public easement and said the road was safe to be open until Nov. 1.

Judy Berg said that according to the town settlement with her family, the road should have been opened May 30.

Dunn said she took her vehicle on it June 10 and determined it was unsafe, so the gate has remained locked.

Berg countered that the town was not living up to the agreement to have the public easement open from May 30 to Dec. 15.

Selectmen Chairman Joanne Bly said the settlement stipulated the road be open “weather permitting.”

Bly and Berg agreed to meet to resolve the issue.

Selectman Oscar Gammon said he would check the road on Nov. 1 to see if it could be kept open until Dec. 15.

Dunn gave selectmen copies of proposed changes to the subdivision regulations. The Planning Board will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday, July 12, on the changes.

The board appointed Dianne Gagnon, Debbie Wetherell, David Chabe, Everett Tilton, Deirdre Cameron and Laurie Clavet to the Recreation Commission.

Selectmen voted to close the town office Saturday, July 17, at the request of Dunn.

There will be a selectmen’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, to discuss the search for a new town manager.
