WEST PARIS – A local resident made the winning bid for the former Trapp Corner Restaurant on Route 26 Friday.
Bidders gathered at the site at 1 p.m. Friday to bid on the foreclosed property.
The final bid of $96,000 was made by an elated Mary Theresa Elizabeth Kell Butera-Salterio of Sterns Hill Road in West Paris. She plans to open a convenience store as soon as possible with local crafts, antiques and a bakery. Butera-Salterio said she plans to call the store “Bear Trapp Treasures.”
While only two serious bidders were present, Brian Marshall from Marshall Auctioneers in North Turner spoke to a small crowd of interested citizens of West Paris. He reviewed the particulars of the property before he opened the bidding.
The property has been assessed for $169,954 at 100 percent valuation. The back taxes, which are the responsibility of the winning bidder, were given as $2,765.51, real estate taxes at $3,113.22, and personal property tax of $3,500.
The bidding opened at $68,500 on the property that has passed through many hands over the years. Several restaurants have closed after being open a short time and the last owners planned to offer adult entertainment, which was voted down by the people of West Paris.
