PARIS – The town has long supported the construction of a skateboard park, Town Manager Steve McAllister said Wednesday.
A headline in Tuesday’s Oxford Hills edition may have been misinterpreted, and McAllister wanted to set the record straight.
“We donated the Charles Street Park so SAD 17 could build a (skateboard) park,” McAllister said. The park, which has basketball courts and benches, has been seldom used in recent years.
McAllister pointed out that no promises have been broken and that the skateboard park has been set back because of delays in a federal grant. Design proposals are due in to the SAD 17 district by the end of this week, and SAD 17 officials have said they are determined to have something in place for skateboarding teens by this summer.
