NORWAY – In honor of National Poetry Month in April, the Mountain Poets Society is holding poetry readings at 7 p.m. April 9 inside the Fare Share Commons on Main Street.

Sign-ups for the readings begin at 6:30 p.m.

The event, titled Too Cold For The Porch, evokes the successful Poets On The Porch event launched last year during the Norway Summer Festival.

The Poets On The Porch was organized by Lisa Moore, a member of the Mountain Poets Society, which meets at 7 p.m. the last Thursday of the month in the commons.

The group usually numbers between six and 12 people of all ages and backgrounds, said member Rocky Graham.

“We’re not professionals, we just enjoy poetry,” she said. Over the years Norway has been home to a number of highly talented writers and poets, including C.A. Stephens and Don Sykes, she said.

“It’s almost like a coming of age of Norway” to witness the growing interest among local residents in poetry and the arts, Graham said.

The Commons space is also home to the Commons Art Collective, which features the works of local artists. Mountain Poets Society member Joanna Reece’s art exhibit, Planet Life, will be on display during the April 9 poetry reading.
