NEWRY – A 6-year-old boy from Massachusetts was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland on Friday after a swimming accident at Sunday River Ski Resort.

The youngster was traveling with a group when the incident occurred at 5:15 p.m. at the Jordan Grand Resort Hotel pool, said Susan DuPlessis, the resort’s director of communications.

He was taken to Rumford Hospital and transferred by helicopter to Portland as a precaution, she said, because of MMC’s pediatric care facilities. She said it was her understanding the boy was stable and doing well Friday night.
