Peter Lee Robbins was charged with bank robbery after being arrested at Sunday River.
NEWRY – A Kittery man was arrested at gunpoint by Maine State Police troopers Monday morning in the parking lot of the Grand Summit Hotel at Sunday River Ski Resort.
Peter Lee Robbins, 26, was charged with robbing the Bank of New Hampshire on March 3 in North Hampton, N.H. He was transported to Oxford County jail in Paris for booking.
A jail official said Robbins was charged with robbery on a warrant from New Hampshire as well as being a fugitive from justice. He added that he will be transported back to the Granite State to appear before a judge.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Troopers James Nolan, Dan Hanson and Robert Burke were called to Newry early Monday morning.
“We were notified just after midnight by New Hampshire authorities that Robbins was staying at the hotel,” McCausland said.
The three troopers went to the hotel, spotted a pickup truck that Robbins was said to be driving, and commenced a stake out, while calls went out to the State Police Tactical Team and negotiators for assistance, McCausland said.
“But prior to them being in position, the troopers spotted Robbins walking across the parking lot to his pickup, so they decided to pick him up at gunpoint about 10 a.m.,” he added.
Robbins was arrested without incident.
Sunday River spokeswoman Susan DuPlessis said Monday afternoon that resort officials were notified that one of their hotel guests would be arrested at gunpoint.
