OXFORD – Selectmen on Thursday got their first look at nearly 30 resumes of people seeking the job of town manager.
Among the applicants are several people who have been town managers, along with the present interim town manager, Sharon Jackson, said selectmen Chairman Floyd Thayer.
Thayer said the applicants come from all over Maine and from Michigan and Illinois.
“We’ve had some pretty good responses,” he said, referring to ads in all of Maine’s major daily newspapers and the Maine Townsmen, a publication of the Maine Municipal Association.
Thayer said the salary range that selectmen are looking at is around $50,000, which is about what former Town Manager Michael Huston was making.
Huston left at the end of July and is taking accrued vacation time before beginning his new job as Lincoln County administrator on Sept. 3.
Jackson, the town’s deputy treasurer and tax collector, was appointed interim manager July 15.
It will likely be a month or more before selectmen narrow the field of candidates to a few finalists. Thayer said selectmen, who have chosen to conduct the search on their own, want to take their time in making a decision.
