PARIS – Volunteers are needed to help children keep score in the third annual after-school bowling program at Oxford Bowling Inc.
The eight-week program, sponsored by the Norway Recreation Department, begins Feb. 25 and runs through April 14. It is open to all Guy E. Rowe Elementary School children in grades two through six, and runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays.
Norway Recreation Director Deb Partridge said Scott Buffington, owner of the Route 26 bowling alley, is providing a “wonderful discount” to support the program. Children pay a $10 registration fee and then pay just $3 to bowl two to four strings. The fee also covers the rental of bowling shoes.
Kids who attend all eight weeks of the bowling program have the chance to win a set of bowling balls and a bag, compliments of the bowling alley, Partridge said.
She said for some children, the program represents the first time they have ever been bowling. “It’s a lifelong sport. And it also helps them to improve their math,” she said.
Children will be bused to the bowling alley, but will need to be picked up no later than 5 p.m.
Registration forms are available at the Norway Town Hall, the Guy E. Rowe Elementary School and Oxford Bowling Inc. The forms should be returned to the Norway Recreation Department at Norway Town Hall.
