BETHEL – SAD 44 directors continued wading through the district’s policy manual Monday as part of an ongoing update.

Superintendent David Murphy said many policies, which were written 15 to 20 years ago, need to be brought up to date. Others have to be brought into line with state mandates.

“This is probably the most intensive review of our policy manual in the past 20 years,” said Murphy, “and the need to revise the manual stems from the fact that the education process in our schools is much more complicated than it was 20 years ago.”

Murphy said that when the project is complete, “hopefully before the school year ends in June,” directors will have reviewed and updated more than 200 policies.

During Monday’s session the second and final readings on 20 policies were approved and the first readings of 30 more were completed.

In other business the board approved nominations as recommended by Murphy of Cheryl Angevine as junior class adviser and Tim O’Connor as Telstar Middle School baseball coach.
