OTISFIELD – Fire Chief Garry Dyer said the State Fire Marshal’s Office pegged the chimney area as the origin of a house fire on Oak Hill Road early Sunday.

“They haven’t sent results yet, but the fire marshal said it started in and around chimney area,” Dyer said.

Firefighters from six towns battled the blaze at 379 Oak Hill Road.

The house belonged to Kim Brannon, who escaped the fire along with her 3-month-old son Todd. Brannon’s 7-year-old son Devan was not home at the time of the fire.

Dyer said the structure is still standing minus windows, doors and the roof over the kitchen.

The Brannons possessions were destroyed by the fire.

Dyer said the fire had a large head start on firefighters and the best they could do was contain it and prevent it from spreading to the barn/garage areas.

He said the fire was reported shortly before 1 a.m. and under control in two hours, but crews stayed there nearly seven hours because the fire kept flaring up.
