NEWRY – State police detectives were investigating a triple homicide Monday night in this small Oxford County town.

Investigators were searching for a possible fourth victim in a remote area in Oxford County, according to Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland.

McCausland said residents in the area should not be concerned for their safety.

“We have accounted for all of those involved, and there is no danger,” he said.

The identities of the three female victims have not been released.

State police were called to the Black Bear Bed and Breakfast around 5:30 p.m. after the bodies were discovered. An official from the state medical examiner’s office was at the scene late Monday night and state police were flying in additional investigators, McCausland said.

Police have one man in custody, who was being questioned in connection with the deaths, according to McCausland. He added that the man in custody, a Maine resident, knew two of the victims.

The bed and breakfast where the bodies were found is located near the Sunday River Road, five minutes from the Sunday River ski resort. It is in an old farmhouse built in 1830.

McCausland said, “A team of state police detectives has been arriving throughout the night,” and are being assisted by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department and the Maine Warden Service.

“The Attorney General’s Office has been informed,” McCausland added.

The state medical examiner was removing the bodies from the inn early this morning.

State police Lt. Brian McDonough and Sgt. Walter Grzyb were in charge of the investigation, and Chief Craig Poulin was at the scene, McCausland said.
