PARIS – The Oxford Hills Bowling Lanes is getting a facelift, and a new name.

Eben Hobbs of Norway has purchased the 14-lane landmark and is putting it through a complete renovation.

It will reopen Sept. 5 as “Hobbs’ Lucky Lanes.”

Hobbs said he approached the previous owner asking to buy the place.

“I have been in the bowling business all my life,” Hobbs said.

Hobbs ordered new masking units to spruce up the display area behind the lanes. He’s adding new carpeting and layers of paint on both the inside and out.

“We’re trying to brighten the place up,” said Ray Richards, manager.

The snack bar will have a new counter top. The bathrooms will be redone.

People would often confuse the Oxford Hills Bowling Lanes with Oxford Lanes in Rumford, which was part of the reason for the name change, Richards said.

The building was built as a warehouse for Hamilton Cornwall Wood Products in 1966, Richards said. It was converted into a bowling alley in 1969, when Richards started managing. Hobbs is the fourth owner of the alley.

Richards left the Oxford Hills Bowling Lanes in 2004, but came back when he found out that Hobbs, a close friend, had assumed ownership, he said.

The lanes attract people of all ages, Richards said. When it is reopened, it will have bumper bowling on all lanes for kids.
