MEXICO – A mother and daughter were transported to Rumford Hospital Monday afternoon after they crashed into a utility pole along Route 2, also known as River Road.

Police Sgt. Roy Hodsdon said Barbara Kennison, 51, of Dixfield, was driving her mother’s vehicle, a 2006 Buick sedan, westerly when she lost control, apparently because of a medical condition.

The vehicle slammed into a utility pole near VIP Auto, breaking the pole and injuring Kennison and her mother, Johannah Richardson, 77, also of Dixfield, who was a passenger. Airbags deployed upon impact.

The women were taken to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care Ambulance Service. Kennison was treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Richardson was transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where she was listed in good condition Monday afternoon.

The Buick had at least $15,000 damage, and the pole, which will be replaced, about in $1,000 damage, said Hodsdon.

The Mexico Fire Department responded to the scene and helped direct traffic. The road was reopened at about 2 p.m.
