MEXICO – Recent incidents handled by Police include:
Arrest
• Alex Acosta, 26, Roxbury Road, Mexico, domestic assault with one prior, 1:04 p.m., Aug. 26, on Cumberland Street, Rumford. He was released from the Mexico Police Department on $1,200 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear in Rumford District Court on Sept. 18.
Vandalism
Several hundred dollars in damage was caused to a Mexico Police Department cruiser as officer Dean Benson transported Jeremy Belskis, 21, to the Oxford County Jail on a charge of operating under the influence at 10:40 p.m. Aug. 23. Sgt. Roy Hodsdon said Belskis kicked the door, damaging the frame. He was then arrested for failure to submit to arrest and detention and is expected to be charged with aggravated criminal mischief as soon as the damage estimates come in.
Thefts
A Poplar Hill resident reported the theft of an all-terrain vehicle he had parked on Backkingdom Road on Aug. 23. The theft was reported at 7 p.m. Aug. 24. The vehicle was found later that day at Hosmer Field in Rumford with several thousand dollars damage. Police have a suspect.
A weed cutter, valued at $400, and two filled gasoline cans, valued at $40 and owned by the Mexico Recreation Department, were stolen between 10 and 11 a.m. Aug. 22 from the first floor of the Mexico Recreation building. The thefts were reported by the Mexico recreation director at 1 p.m. Aug. 22.
Burglary
A door to the former Western Maine Transportation building on Harlow Hill Road was damaged when someone tried to break in prior to 4:49 p.m. Aug. 21. About $50 damage was done. Nothing appeared to be taken.
