PERU – Code Enforcement Officer Jack Plumley brought three cases of building permits being ignored before selectmen Monday night.

A shed was erected on property on the Finnegan property on Valley Road after the CEO had told the owner to get a permit. He did not.

Robert Scott on Ridge Road was denied a permit for a porch/deck that was in the road limits. The addition was built and remains in violation.

Joshua Crosby has moved junk over a banking and also needs a leach field for his septic.

The board agreed to send all three violators letters by certified mail informing them to contact the office.

Plumley also said he saw signs that two septic systems are leaking. He is notifying the plumbing inspector.

Jay Bernard was present to discuss town property next to Mrs. B’s Village Store. Bernard is interested in acquiring the property. The public uses a portion of the town lot for parking to gain access to the store. The store has also placed a picnic table on the lot for customers. Service vehicles use the lot to deliver fuel and merchandise to the store. The board voted to make a site visit on June 16 to get a clear idea of where property lines are.

After discussion, selectmen voted to pay for a light post for Jeanne Blunda, who claims it was broken during winter snow removal efforts. Selectman Corey Jacques said he thought they should pay because he had suffered the loss of a lilac bush this winter in the same manner. Selectman Jim Pulsifer said the light post was clearly out of the road and while it could not be proved the town did the damage he felt it best to cover the cost.

The Maine Department of Transportation’s speed trailer is available for two weeks. Pulsifer said he would go to Woodstock on Tuesday to pick up the trailer. Selectman Rodney Jamison will see about placing it in a high traffic area.

Two buildings are a safety hazard because they are in serious disrepair and if they collapse might fall into a nearby stream, selectmen noted. They approved sending certified letters to REO Acceptance at 10 Dickvale Road and Russell MacDonald at 141 Dickvale Road concerning the buildings.
