PERU – On Monday, Aug. 6, residents will have a chance to vote in three new selectmen. This vote is to fill vacancies left by the resignation on June 8 of William C. Hine and Andre St. Pierre. Norman DeRoche resigned on June 18, but said he would stay on until an election could be held so the board could function.
Hine and St. Pierre both resigned on June 8, the day after the board had met and threw out all bids for the capital improvement project and decided to have Road Commissioner David Gammon do the $400,000-plus job.
Corey Jacques, a Lewiston police officer, and Laurieann Milligan, who works for Med Care, are both running for one-year slots. Neither has served on a board before. Former selectman James Pulsifer is running for a three-year position.
Voting will take place from noon to 8 p.m. at the Rockemeka Grange Hall.
At 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 13, there will be a special town meeting to vote on the sale of old fire equipment and the purchase of new fire equipment.
Voters will be asked to approve the sale, by sealed bid, of two firetrucks: a 1979 International tanker and 1947 Chevrolet pumper. They will also be asked to authorize the fire chief to purchase tires and tire chains for the 2007 International tank truck with funds received from the sale of the two old trucks at a cost not to exceed $3,000.
The meeting will be held at the Rockemeka Grange Hall.
