Sept. 25, 8:50 a.m. – A 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Arthur Cole, 81, of Andover was struck by a Guilford Rail System train traveling the Maine Central Railroad tracks at the unmarked Riverside Drive crossing in the Smith Crossing neighborhood. Cole was taken to Rumford Hospital to be evaluated. His truck sustained an estimated $3,000 damage. The train, operated by Ralph Cameron, 36, of Rumford, was not damaged.
