Aaron Skidgell, an eighth-grader at Dirigo Middle School in Dixfield, did some community service work on Monday morning on Route 2. Using a 500,000 BTU torch, Skidgell helped Dixfield Water Department operator Duane Powers melt pavement around a frozen water line’s curb stop so Powers could open the cap and turn the water off to a business owned by Skidgell’s grandfather. Today, Powers said Dixfield’s crew would be digging up the eastbound lane at 35 Main St. to repair a broken sewer main.
