BETHEL – Dieters beware! Decadent morsels are expected to ambush and tantalize taste buds at this weekend’s annual Taste of Bethel and Chocolate Lovers Festival.

As many as 15 Bethel-area restaurateurs are to “strut their stuff” during the event from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in the Telstar High School cafeteria.

The school is a mile south of Bethel village on Main Street, which is Route 26.

Chefs will be offering “a premier smorgasbord of the best food in our region under one roof,” stated Robin Zinchuk in an e-mailed press release Tuesday afternoon.

Zinchuk, executive director of the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce, said the event is one of the area’s most popular pre-holiday traditions.

Lines form early and food goes quickly at 75 cents a sample. Parking is free.

Also on Saturday, the chocolate festival will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Victoria Inn, 32 Main St. Proceeds from the $5-per-person event will benefit the high school’s senior class.

Organizer Sarah Southam, the secondary school’s chemistry teacher, said late Tuesday afternoon that chocolate cheesecake, chocolate silk cake and brownies will be among the mouth-watering varieties.

The equally traditional Theme Wreath Auction, a silent auction featuring decorated wreaths provided by Bethel-area businesses, is to be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the high school.

Highest bidders are to be announced shortly after 2 p.m.

After the Taste of Bethel, free horse-drawn wagon rides are to be offered in Bethel Village from 2 to 4 p.m. The meeting place for the rides is in front of the Bethel Inn and Country Club.
