RUMFORD – A Jay man was injured Monday morning when his car veered off Route 2 in Rumford and crashed into a ditch.
Steven Child, 42, was taken by Med-Care Ambulance to Rumford Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, investigating Patrolman Matthew Noyes said early Monday night.
He was treated and released, according to a nursing supervisor Monday night.
Noyes said the accident occurred at 8:02 a.m. while Child was driving a 1992 Buick Century sedan west near Sunnyside Terrace.
“He hit something on the road, and the air went out of his front right tire,” Noyes said. “The air was released very quickly, and it yanked him off the road.”
The road was wet at the time.
Noyes said Child freed himself from the car, then called for help on a cell phone.
Damage to the car was estimated at $1,000. It had to be towed.
