ROXBURY – Selectmen have returned their annual town meeting date to its original time.

First Selectman Tina Howard said on Thursday that the annual event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 7, at Mountain Valley Middle School.

A social hour will precede the meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Selectmen had announced earlier in the week that they were moving the annual event to May because of late-arriving warrant items and a variety of other issues.

Howard said on Thursday that those items – involving a land dispute question and a proposal that would deny building permits for those who owe back taxes – will likely be taken up at a special town meeting in May.

Several candidates have returned nomination papers for the selectman’s seat currently held by Howard. She has decided not to seek re-election to the board position, but will instead run unopposed for the part-time position of town clerk/tax collector. That position is currently held by Delia Knapp, who is not running again.

Seeking Howard’s seat are Douten “Dan” Thomas, Alan Hodgkins and Matt Patenaude.

Mark Touchette, a MeadWestvaco employee, is running unopposed for a second three-year term on the SAD 43 Board of Directors.

Elections for all positions will take place by paper ballot at the March 7 town meeting.
