Light the Garden benefit

NORWAY — Alan Day Community Garden will host Light the Garden from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23.

There will be tasty treats, the Cobblestones band and a silent auction to support the Youth Leadership Program.

Contradance planned for Sunday

OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Community Contradance will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at the Otisfield Community Hall, 292 State Route 121.

Participants will dance to music by Don Roy and friends. Caller John McIntire will walk people through each dance.

No contradance experience is required. This is a social dance where everyone will dance with everyone. Children are welcome. Admission will be by donation, and refreshments will be available.

Lovell United Church of Christ VBS

LOVELL — Vacation Bible school will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, June 25 to June 29, at the Lovell United Church of Christ. This is for ages 3 and older.

The school will include experiments, creative games, tropical treats, adventures and music.

RSU 10 offers food program

RUMFORD — Regional School Unit 10 is participating in the Summer Food Service Program available to anyone age 18 or younger.

Lunch will be served from from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 25 to Aug. 10, at Rumford Public Library.

Mountain Valley High School and Meroby Elementary School will serve breakfast at 8 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 9 through Aug. 2.

No meals will be served Wednesday, July 4. All meals must be eaten on site.

The program helps students stay healthy and return to school ready to learn. It is federally funded and administered by the Maine Department of Education.

Children who are part of households that receive food stamps or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families are automatically eligible to receive free meals.

Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Mycology brown bag lunch

BETHEL — Amanda Moran will facilitate a Brown Bag Lunch from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, at the Bethel Inn library, 21 Broad St., to introduce her Western Maine Senior College fall course on mycology.

The course will focus on the basic language of mycology and how to safely identify wild mushrooms while dispelling some common cultural fears about them.
