Unlocked cars were rifled on Spring and Crescent avenues Friday night.
RUMFORD – Following a rash of overnight car burglaries in the Virginia section of town, police Friday were seeking help from the public.
Sgt. Stacy Carter said that sometime between 11 p.m. Thursday and 3 a.m. Friday, someone rifled unlocked cars parked on Spring and Crescent avenues.
Nothing was presumed taken from two of three cars on Spring Avenue, but a compact disc player and CDs valued at $150 were taken from the third vehicle, he said.
A compact disc player and CDs, valued at about the same amount, were also stolen from a vehicle on Crescent Avenue.
Carter lamented that Rumford residents had yet to learn that they should lock their parked cars at night, despite repeated warnings from police.
At about 2 a.m. Friday, police responded to a report of “younger people” looking through unlocked vehicles, but were unable to locate the youths.
