The forum will address economic and social topics such as development and beautification.

MEXICO – Lots of changes have taken place in this town since residents brainstormed what they’d like to see happen almost a decade ago.

Now, the Citizens Advisory Board has set another night, called Keep Mexico Moving, to get more ideas on how the town can continue to grow and improve.

The event, complete with prizes, food and even Mexican-styled snacks such as tacos, chili and salsa, is set for 6:30 p.m. April 28 in the Mexico Town Hall.

“We want to draw people in for the night,” said board Chairwoman Louise Arsenault.

The Citizens Advisory Board has been busy planning the event, and soon posters inviting townspeople to attend will be displayed in virtually all of the town’s businesses.

Flyers will also be distributed at schools, and students will be asked to submit their own ideas on what they’d like to see in their town.

“We want people to help us keep Mexico, Maine a wonderful hometown and a great place to live and work,” said committee member Wesley Raynor.

Ideas, said ideas coming out of the event led to a number of beautification and structural improvements, such as new water and sewer lines and facade upgrades for dozens of businesses, as well as the successful attraction of several new businesses.

The forum will focus on several topics, including business and economic growth, tourism, social and cultural assets, uses of existing recreational facilities and beautification projects.

Ideas coming from the April 28 forum will also be used to update the town’s economic development plan.

Representatives from Management Intervention Services of Rockland will facilitate the community forum.
