PARIS – A Hartford woman was indicted Thursday by the Oxford County grand jury on felony marijuana cultivation and trafficking charges.
Julia Justine St.James, 44, of Mountain View Drive, was charged with aggravated marijuana cultivation and aggravated trafficking in marijuana, and criminal forfeiture of cash and two firearms.
She was released on a $10,000 cash bail bond on March 19. Conditions of bail are to:
• Refrain from possession or use of intoxicating liquor.
• Refrain from possession or use of any unlawful drugs.
• Not own, possess or use any firearm or dangerous weapon.
• Submit to random searches and testing for alcohol, drugs, firearms and dangerous weapons upon reasonable suspicion of use or possession.
St.James is to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. June 28 in South Paris District Court.
According to the indictment, on or about Feb. 27, at her Hartford home, St.James is alleged to have grown or cultivated between 100 and 500 marijuana plants, while possessing a firearm.
The trafficking charge stems from possessing more than one pound of processed pot with intent to sell it, and possession of a firearm.
The criminal forfeiture counts involve $715 cash, a .44-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun, and a 12-gauge Winchester shotgun.
St.James was initially arrested on Feb. 27 at her home by Oxford County police, a Maine Drug Enforcement agent and state troopers.
The street value of the processed marijuana was estimated at $3,000 due to its high quality, said drug enforcement agent Tony Milligan.
The value of the pot plants found growing in St.James’ greenhouse, when harvested, would have produced from half a pound to one pound per plant of processed pot, he said.
At $1,000 or $3,000 a pound depending on quality, that would have netted the alleged trafficker “a huge profit,” Milligan added.
