PERU – Washouts caused by recent heavy rains have put extra pressure on Peru’s summer and tarred roads funding, Road Commissioner David Gammon told selectmen Monday.
Several projects taken on by Gammon’s department in the past few weeks have been a result of this year’s late fall rain.
“We should be fine,” Gammon said when predicting how close the budget would be to meeting expenses, but added “it could rain three or four more times, but it doesn’t look like it right now.”
Also discussed at the meeting was an article in the Sun Journal announcing the Peru school board’s plan for a Feb. 2 town vote on the merger with SAD 21.
Some selectmen were concerned that the school board had not contacted them about its plans for scheduling the vote. According to the schedule outlined in the article, the vote would take place about a month before Peru’s town meeting scheduled for March. Selectman Jim Pulsifer said he was planning to meet with some school officials and would bring up the matter.
