RUMFORD – A reorganizational meeting of the Moontide Water Festival Committee is planned for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Roberts Chiropractic.

Committee Chairman Matt Plante said volunteers are needed. The 12-person committee is looking at possibly bringing a lumbermen’s competition or a rodeo to the event, which is capped off with a huge display of fireworks over the Androscoggin River’s reflection pool on July 4.

To raise the $40,000 needed for fireworks, entertainment, portable toilet rentals, office supplies and the myriad other items and services, a series of fund-raisers is being planned, including a two-day mud run during next Memorial Day weekend.

Because the traditional carnival didn’t appear at this year’s Moontide Water Festival, the committee still owes about $5,600 in leftover bills. The carnival donates a certain percentage of money taken in to the committee to help meet the festival’s expenses.

Plante said the committee plans to have a booth at the River Valley Expo next month, where raffles will be offered and Moontide souvenirs given out to those who make donations. He said other fund-raisers to pay off this year’s bills are being planned.

He and Vice Chairman Joe Roberts are also working with the town to bring up to three food vendors to the reflection pool parking lot from April through October. A percentage of the profits will be donated to the Moontide Water Festival Committee for use during the festival.

Donations may also be mailed to the attention of the Moontide committee at the Oxford Federal Credit Union.
