PARIS – Three River Valley-area residents accused of sex crimes against children were indicted this week by an Oxford County grand jury.
None of the accused could be contacted for comment on Friday.
Jennifer Jeanne Conant, 35, of 75 Canton Point Road, Canton, was charged with five counts of gross sexual assault against a boy under the age of 14.
According to the indictment, she engaged in a sex act with the boy on Nov. 15 and Dec. 1, 2004, Canton, and on Jan. 30 and March 15, 2005, in Canton, and again on July 15, 2005, in Hartford.
Maine State Police Detective John Hainey investigated the case. Assistant District Attorney Richard Beauchesne asked the grand jury to issue a summons to Conant rather than an arrest warrant, according to the grand jury report.
The Class A felonies is punishable by up to 40 years in prison on each charge.
Arthur Dwight Haseltine, 70, of 229 Roxbury Notch Road, Roxbury, was charged with nine counts of unlawful sexual contact, all Class C felonies; and Carroll E. Webber, 33, of 507 York St., Rumford, was charged with a Class A crime of unlawful sexual contact.
Haseltine, according to the indictment, is charged with intentionally subjecting three different girls under the age of 14 to sexual contact from 1997 through 2002.
Webber’s indictment accuses him of having sexual contact with a girl under the age of 12 on July 16 in Rumford.
Webber, who was initially arrested by Rumford acting Detective Mark Cayer on July 19 and charged with gross sexual assault, has remained in Oxford County Jail since, unable to post bail of $3,000 cash or $10,000 worth of property.
On Wednesday, Beauchesne asked that an arrest warrant be issued for Webber, because he was indicted on a different charge and wasn’t free on bail, the grand jury record stated.
