I am a teacher at Edward Little High School. Before class started on Nov. 18, several of my ninth grade students shared their thoughts on the Sun Journal’s article about cutting down the Christmas tree in New Auburn. They expressed their concern about losing the tree that they are very fond of seeing during the Christmas season. Some wanted to know what could be done. Some said that nothing could be done. I found this so interesting:
Student 1 said, “They (decision makers) won’t listen to us because we are kids.”
Student 2 said, “It doesn’t matter because nothing is going to change. It’s too late to do anything.”
Student 3 said, “What can we do to prevent this from happening … a petition maybe?
Student 4 said, “That tree is so pretty during the Christmas season they should not cut it down.”
Student 5 said, “That if it has to be cut down, they should plant a new one.”
