Residents of the Dixfield area have been stopping at the town office to drop off personal and snack items for military personnel serving in Afghanistan, and food and other items for homeless cats. Deputy Town Clerk Charlotte Collins said 25 boxes of items for soldiers have already been gathered and boxed. Anyone who wants to add more to the mailing should drop off items by Dec. 4. She said $500 has also been collected to mail the boxes. Money not needed for mailing will be turned into phone cards and tucked into the boxes. Those who wish to donate litter, food or other items for homeless and abandoned cats in a program known as Christmas for Kitties may bring them to the town office by Dec. 24.
