FARMINGTON – Registrations are being accepted for the Farmington Recreation Department’s 25th season of Junior Pro Basketball, an instructional program for boys and girls in grades 2 through 6.

The registration deadline is Saturday, Dec. 11, which is also the date of an introductory skills clinic that will be in the gymnasium of the Community Center.

The second division, grades 4, 5 and 6, will meet from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. Dec. 11 and the first division, grades 2 and 3, will meet from 11:45 a.m to 1:30 p.m. Players are separated into these two divisions, consisting of boys and girls on the same team, to promote balanced competition and equal play opportunity, according to the department.

Regular season games, from Jan. 8 through the championship game on Feb. 26, are scheduled for the following starting times: Division 2 at 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and noon; and Division 1 at 1 and 2:30 p.m.

Kim Richards will return for her 13th year as program director. A registration fee of $20 is charged for all players. First-year players may order a youth sports team jersey by the registration deadline. The jersey is sold by the Recreation Department for $20 or can be purchased from youngsters who have previously played. The only other fee is a nonresident $5 fee for players who don’t live in Farmington, Farmington Falls, West Farmington or Fairbanks.

A scholarship in memory of the 1990 boys basketball travel team coach, Alex Strozier, will be continued this season, $2 from each registration fee will go to the scholarship fund. The sum, anticipated to be approximately $250, will be awarded to a deserving volunteer coach in this program.
