FARMINGTON – Megan Roberts, manager of Titcomb Mountain Ski Area, says it’s time to pursue other opportunities.
Roberts of Farmington has been manager of the mountain for four years.
“Part of me is really sad; the other part realizes that is what is good for me in my life,” Roberts said. “Life’s an open book,” she said.
Managing the mountain and all that goes with it is an all-consuming job, Roberts said.
Although she will be staying in the area, she doesn’t know exactly what she will do yet. But she does know she wants to do more as a certified yoga instructor.
She also said she may write a book. “I’m interested in research and I have research half done,” she said. She has the diaries of her great-grandfather, Leonard Keith, who lived in North Chesterville decades ago when the town was known as Keith’s Mills.
“I’m giving myself a month to look at all the opportunities,” she said.
Roberts returned to Farmington several years ago after being away for 20 years.
She has worked in the ski industry for more than 20 years, and has worked in Colorado and New Mexico.
During her time at Titcomb, she has overseen numerous improvements at the ski area, including expansion of the snowmaking pond and the upper parking lot, creation of a new Alpine trail, improvements on Nordic trails, installation of a new furnace, improvements in drainage, construction of a race start building and ramp, rebuilding the snowboard park, installation of new snow guns, installation of a new beginner lift, and reconfiguration of a beginner trail.
She has been instrumental in increasing membership in the Farmington Ski Club to nearly 1,000.
Roberts plans to help the club during the transition period. Her position is full-time eight months a year and 40 hours a month during the other four months.
“I’ll miss it; I’ll miss certain aspects but I can volunteer any time I want,” Roberts said. “They’re a gang of wonderful, wonderful people.”
Roberts said she has thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“I’ve enjoyed getting the children outside because children’s health has always been important to me,” she said.
The ski club will hold an open house at the mountain and a farewell gathering for Roberts between 6 and 7 p.m. Monday, June 14, which will be followed at 7 p.m. by the annual meeting.
