FARMINGTON – An educational program on managing Japanese beetles in the home garden will be given at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Farmington Municipal Building meeting room. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Japanese beetles cause an estimated $450 million in damage and control costs in the United States. Colin Stewart, a pest management specialist from the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, will discuss ways to reduce the problems caused by the major pest of turf and other plants. Stewart has dealt with this pest in Maine, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Maryland and is currently operating a neighborhood-wide Japanese beetle management program in Winterport. Rebekahs meeting at cottage
LIVERMORE FALLS – Charity Rebekah Lodge will meet Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the summer cottage of Mildred Wright on Long Pond, North Livermore. Clothing donations on hold
FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Children’s Task Force has an overabundance of children’s clothing for sizes newborn to 4T on a bring-a-bag, take-a-bag exchange policy. Due to the lack of space in their office, they will not be able to accept donations of clothing or other items until further notice. FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District will hold its monthly board meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the USDA Service Center Conference Room at 107 Park St. This meeting is open to the public. Benefit concert will help Norlands
LIVERMORE – Mitch Thomas, a singer, pianist, songwriter and storyteller, will present a one-hour benefit concert with several other musicians at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, in the historic Washburn-Norlands Universalist Meeting House. When this church building was completed in 1829, heat and a restroom were not included. The proceeds from this concert will benefit the efforts to install heat, seat cushions and a restroom. This updating will allow Norlands to present programs and offer the building for public use year-round. A donation of $20 is recommended at the door. Reservations are not required. Contradance will be Saturday
WEST FARMINGTON – A contradance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Grange Hall. Admission is $5 or a maximum of $10 for a family. At 7:30 people will be able to learn the basics of the dance or brush up their skills. Dances are held the second Saturday of the month. No partners are necessary and beginners are welcome.
