Dear Sun Spots: We are greatly in need of 4-ply yarn of all colors and in good condition. We have 20 volunteers who knit and crochet hats, scarves, slippers, mittens, baby clothing, lap robes and other warm objects, which in turn are given to the needy of all ages in Androscoggin County.

Our program SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage and Hope) is part of Catholic Charities Maine at 270 Minot Ave., Auburn. We have wonderful volunteers are assigned to elderly people who enjoy their reassurance calls or home visits.

The yarn is donated to SEARCH and given out to the knitters as needed.

For more information about donating yarn, please phone our office at 784-0157. We are open every weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join us in the joy of giving and making someone happy and warm. With our deepest gratitude. – Phoebe Lowell, program director, Auburn.

Dear Sun Spots: I have a 20-year-old grandfather clock in need of repair. I am hoping there is someone in the area who could fix it by making a house call. It’s very difficult to transport, but I would consider all options for getting it repaired. I may be reached at 357-3844. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: Contact Pat at Rohman Clockworks at 350 Minot Ave., in Auburn, 784-1211. Pat says he does perform home visits, evaluating the clocks on site. He says most often the clocks need a good cleaning and the like, and he typically takes the movement from the case and brings it back to his shop to work on it. He’d be happy to assist. Give him a call to discuss what you need. Rohman’s repairs antique and modern clocks, including cuckoo clocks and grandfather clocks.
