WILTON – Planners will review a permit issued last year to Protea Behavioral Health Services when the board meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at the town office.

Last October, planners granted a permit for the agency, which is quartered on Depot Street. A public hearing was called after neighbors contacted officials with concerns. Some voiced concerns about whether the facility would bring sexual predators or people with violent histories to the area. The concerns were downplayed by local counselors and mental health clients.

Frederick and Helen Grey asked that a fence be built to separate their home from the outpatient mental health clinic because the existing fence has holes in it. Owner Alex Tessmann refused, saying the fence is adequate.

Planners said they would revisit that issue this year.

The permit was granted with conditions that parking be on-premise and that Tessmann would speak with the town’s road foreman about putting up no parking signs along the road at Tessmann’s expense.

Chairman Russell Black and board member Mike Sherrod opposed granting the permit.

In other business, planners will consider one new application. Dean and Sherri Harding want a permit for a tanning and nail salon business on Route 2 in East Wilton.

Planners will also continue to discuss issues to be dealt with in the coming year. They include taking information out of the zoning ordinance that conflicts with a newly enacted subdivision ordinance, the possibility of increasing the number of hours the code enforcement officer works, enforcement of junkyard violations, and ordinance changes for setback requirements from the water.

Other issues include changes to the land use table, routes 2 and 4 access management, sign regulations, shoreland expansions, and cluster development.
