As we move into the new year, it’s a good time for everybody who worked in 1984 and received Social Security checks to review his earnings, says Perry Munroe, Social Security field representative for Lewiston-Auburn.
The exempt amounts in 1984 were $5,160 for people under 65 years old and $6,960 for those 65 to 70, Munroe noted. One dollar in benifits must be withheld for each $2 that earnings exceed the exempt amounts. Those who get disability checks are not subject to the annual earnings test.
